Digbeth Wedding Photography – lockdown wedding

Love is… getting married in lockdown! When you’ve been together 13 years and finally get round to tying the knot it’s sod’s law that there’s a pandemic and a load of restrictions in place. With plans for the wedding changing weekly based on the government guidelines, all we could do is be flexible and go with the flow. Jac and Dom were always getting married at their local church as it’s where they feel comfortable. They chose Fazeley Studios in Birmingham for their reception but unfortunately this couldn’t go ahead. There was a glimmer of hope a few weeks before their big day when it was announced that receptions for up to 30 people could go ahead with social distacing and masks although there would be no dancing allowed! Even this was taken away as the rules changed again but nothing would dampen Jac’s spirits and she booked a table at Birdie’s in Digbeth for reception drinks and the wedding breakfast of champions (loaded fries). The night continued at Zumhof with just a few very close friends, it was quite strange being in a bar after all this time, a little welcome glimpse of normality!
This year has certainly presented some interesting photo opportunities and unusual sights. A really interesting time for me as a photographer to document and this certainly isn’t a wedding I’ll forget in a hurry.
The benefit of an intimate wedding for me with no ‘official’ reception is we had more time for experimental photos so we had a great time exploring Digbeth’s colourful backdrops, setting off smoke bombs and just having fun with photography, resulting in a huge range of exciting and unusual wedding photos.
Jac and Dom: In the beginning
Back in 2007 we met at work, it was a mutual attraction but a work colleague helped us a bit after a bit of hinting from me! We swapped numbers and the rest is history.
What about the proposal?
It was a weekend away in Bath, we visited the Roman baths & Dom got down on one knee. It was a November evening, very picturesque and romantic.
